The visa on Arrival (VoA) has helped simplify the way many foreigners travel to Indonesia since early 2022. This arrival visa allows foreigners to stay in Indonesia for no more than 30 days, obtainable upon arrival. It serves as an alternative to Tourist visas.
The regulations for the VoA in Indonesia undergo periodic changes. Therefore, it's important to keep yourself updated with the latest information about the arrival visa.
Facts about the Indonesia Visa on Arrival (VOA) to visit Indonesia
The Indonesian Visa on Arrival is a type of visa that allows foreigners to stay in Indonesia without any pre-organized visa. It can be obtained upon arrival at an Indonesian International Airport. This visa is granted to foreigners who want to enter Indonesia and is valid for 30 days without going through an extended visa processing procedure. Currently, 97 countries are allowed to enter Indonesia using VoA.
How many days does the VOA valid for?
The visa provides foreign nationals with an initial 30-day visa to Indonesia and is extendable (optional) for a further 30 days, limiting the maximum stay to 60 days within the country.
Is VOA extendable?
This visa is extendable and is eligible for a one-time extension for an additional 30 days. If you would like to stay longer, we suggest contacting us before your visa expires.
How is the process of applying for a VOA?
Upon arrival, ask the Immigration officer or head straight to the BRI counter (Official Bank of Indonesia) to make the payment for the visa application. We recommend using IDR 500,000 IDR or USD 35 (cash is recommended). If you don't bring cash, you may need to find an ATM at the airport, as the counter reportedly does not accept card payments. As of November 2022, the Indonesian government announced that the electronic Visa on Arrival (e-VOA) is now possible directly with Indonesian authorities. This is great news for travelers entering Indonesia who can essentially skip the VoA queue upon arrival.
Visa Exemption
Visa Exemption is granted by the Indonesian government to foreign nationals from selected countries, allowing the holder to enter Indonesia without a paid visa for 30 days. Here's a list of countries that are exempt from paying for VOA upon arrival:
- Brunei
- Cambodia
- Laos
- Malaysia
- Myanmar
- Philippines
- Singapore
- Thailand
- Vietnam
- Timor Leste (as of February 2023)
For foreign nationals in the list above, please note that this visa exemption is not extendable. If you have travel plans longer than 30 days, you will need to obtain the paid VOA.
